Indoor Activities to Keep Your Family Occupied as the Weather Cools Down

Depending on where you live, the weather can become much colder this time of year. As the weather cools down, we are not always able to spend time outdoors like we usually do. It can be challenging to keep children entertained and burn their energy indoors. Fret not – we have listed ideas for activities below that can help keep your family occupied!

Family Game Night

It’s impossible to deny joining a board game when you see others playing it, wouldn’t you agree? Creating an impromptu game night with your loved ones is a great way to get everyone together and unplug from their devices. Find a few board games, card games, or party games and get your children to join you – they won’t regret it!

Craft Stations

Set up several different stations with various crafts for your family. You can create one station for finger painting, one for clay sculpting, and one with stickers, for example. Once you have all the supplies your stations require, line your workstation with either newspaper or butcher paper (to minimize clean-up afterwards). Then give your family 15 minutes at each station to create their art pieces. Wait and see the beautiful creations everyone will come up with!

Brain Games and Challenges

Something you can do to keep your and your family’s mind working hard is to implement a session of brain games and challenges. Brain games can include puzzles, word searches, Sudoku, chess, crossword puzzles – you name it! These challenges can be played at different levels and difficulties and can therefore include every member of your family. Spending quality time with your family while exercising your brain power is the best of both worlds!

Get in the Kitchen

This time of the year is perfect for staying in and making your favorite dishes or baking your favorite treats! Pick a dish or dessert that your family looks forward to eating this season and have everyone make it together. You can all roast pumpkin seeds (after you’ve carved the pumpkins, of course) or bake a yummy fall pie and enjoy it together warm out of the oven.

There are lots of ways to enjoy the crisp weather from the comfort of your home – all while keeping your family occupied and entertained. Spending quality time together is important! It allows for family bonding, provides structured activities for the little ones, and lets everyone unwind. We hope you give them a try!
